Care of your dentures

Routine Maintenance is essential for good Oral and Denture health.

Your mouth is an ever changing environment making routine maintenance an ongoing necessity. Teeth drift, rotate and sometimes continue to erupt. Gums change shape with weight loss/gain and illness, not to mention poor oral health, the onset of caries and tooth loss. Your lips and cheeks also have a significant role in the success of denture wearing.

Dentures also change. With constant use, 24 hours every day, 365 days every year, there is little wonder they simply wear out with use!

A comprehensive oral examination should be undertaken at least once every year.

For full denture wearers we will inspect your dentures for wear and fit, your gums for any obvious signs of soreness, redness, gum disorder, lesions etc.  For partial denture wearers, in conjunction with
your dentist the team at The Denture Centre will help you maintain good oral health.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures need more attention than full dentures, as the fit, care and hygiene of these dentures has an effect on the preservation of remaining natural teeth

Denture cleaning tips

To clean dentures we recommend a very soft brush and soap.

A hard toothbrush and toothpaste is too abrasive for your dentures and should never be used.

There are a number of denture pastes now available which are suitable for everyday use. Ask our team to show you a selection of recommended products.

A handy hint for cleaning your dentures is to partly fill the hand basin with water and place a face flannel in the bottom. If dentures are dropped, the water and cloth will absorb most of the impact.
